Snuggies and Space Suits

Hey everyone!

My husband and I decided to launch our very own blog called Snuggies and Space Suits.

This blog will no longer be active as I will be spending most of my time posting at SaSS.

(Damn, that makes a great acronym)

So, we hope to see you all there!

LLAP,

Karla Baldonado

My Winter Essentials

Last week was crazy. The school district called consecutive two-hour delays for below freezing temperature. It was too cold that they couldn't even start the buses on time! I really appreciated being able to sleep in, though, and now that MLK Jr. weekend is here, I've found the time to write another blog post!

I have a bunch of winter essentials for home improvement, skin care, and make-up. Most of these products I've only recently discovered, and I thought it would be fun to share them!

What are your winter essentials? Leave them in the comments section! Here are a few of my own, and where I got them...

Home Essentials

The Keurig is definitely one of the best investments my husband and I made when we moved in together. We wanted a convenient coffee maker and instantly fell in love with the Keurig...

Not only does it make a wide variety of gourmet coffee flavors, but you can also make the perfect hot cocoa, herbal teas, and even iced drinks. And for $1 per cup, it definitely beats having to go to Starbucks for your fancy coffee fix.

Scented candles are a staple in our home. Each room in our apartment has at least one candle, and we definitely burn through them quickly! We love Bath & Body Works candles because for candle junkies like us, these last us a pretty long time.

The Sweet Pea candle is my little office space candle, and the description reads "a romantic blend of pink petals, juicy raspberry and watery pear." It is also my everyday body mist scent.

White Barn is one of my all-time favorite holiday candles. It is "a rich mixture of dark chestnut, crisp cedar and fresh cloves." It is our current kitchen candle.

Hair and Body Essentials

I use the Organix Moroccan Smooth Perfection Blow Out Cream on my damp hair before blow-drying and straightening or curling. This is the best hair product I've discovered this season, and I'm pretty sure it would still be the perfect go-to anti-frizz and heat protector for the warmer months. It keeps my hair really soft, smooth, and manageable.

This is my go-to body lotion. I use this at least once a day, usually before going to bed after my bath. It's a no fuss, long lasting body moisturizer that keeps your skin baby soft even during the cold winter months.

My husband surprised me with the Taylor Swift Wonderstruck fragrance set for Christmas this year. I wear it everyday to work or whenever I go out. The description of this product is nothing short of enchanting and appropriate, "a charming and sparkling surprise of vibrant fruits kissing a bouquet of soft petals and a touch of sweet indulgence."

Beauty Essentials

These are daily essentials to keep my face and lips moisturized and protected from the cold winter days and nights.

I have been on the lookout for a great eye cream because I noticed that it got much dryer than it did in the past years; I guess it comes with age. I first tried a high-end brand that did not work for me at all, but did for my mom. Who knew that I would end up loving a drugstore product? I love the entire Yes To brand, and the Yes to Cucumbers eye gel is the perfect winter eye treatment for me. I use it twice a day, before putting on my make-up, and before going to bed.

I remove my make-up and tone my face with Soap & Glory's Off Your Face cleansing cloths. They are acid-free, refreshing, gentle, and smells really good. It removes waterproof eye make-up easily as well.

I use the Aveeno Positively Ageless Reconditioning Night Cream daily, as well as my trusty Rosebud Salve. I honestly can't imagine life without these products!

My make-up routine for the winter isn't too different from my all-year round routine, except that I change the shade of my foundation depending on the season. My favorite foundation of all time is the Revlon Colorstay 24-hr Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin. My shade for the winter is 310 Warm Golden but could change to Natural Tan during the summer. It is a foolproof, full coverage foundation that doesn't feel heavy or caky at all, and has a perfectly matte finish. It doesn't budge and requires little to no blotting throughout the day. I absolutely love it.

For concealer, I am completely in love with Maybelline's Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer, which I use under my eyes and the high points of my face (brow bone, bridge of my nose, cupid's bow, etc.). It blends really well with a sponge, concealer brush, or your fingers. It's the best concealer out there, in my opinion.

I hardly leave the house without bronzer on. It just gives warmth and good contour to my face. My good friend and Canadian fashion blogger KD, also know as The Girl With The Messy Hair, sent me my current favorite bronzer of the moment -- Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer. It is matte but also has a subtle shimmer that give my face a healthy glow. I use it on the hollows of my cheeks, temples, hairline, and jaw line.

For the eyes, I always reach out for Maybelline's Color Tattoo cream eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze, Smashbox's Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Vamp, which is a plum/gray, very natural and flattering color, and Anastasia brow gel to keep my brows in place.

My lip essentials for the winter are warm to deep shades of lipstick, such as my Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie, which is the perfect winter berry color and extremely moisturizing, and for more neutral days, Clinique's Long Last Lipstick in Beauty.

First Post for 2013 -- We're Married!

It's been a long time since I last updated this blog, and the fact that my last post was made by "single" me, feels surreal.

Yes, I finally married the love of my life, the man of my dreams, my best friend, Christopher!

Married life has been fun, interesting, and busy so far; I do have an excuse for not posting anything for a couple of months! We've been busy moving into our new place, and enjoying the newness of married life.

I've never lived with anyone other than my family until I married Chris, so it's been quite an adjustment, albeit a really joyous one.

I used to think that living together before tying the knot was a great and practical idea for any engaged couple, and I still believe that, but I realized that waiting until you are married can be quite different, in a wonderfully magical way!

I had looked forward so much and waited patiently yet giddily for that day when I finally get to live with someone I could picture growing old with. While dating, it got a little tiring having to say goodbye after watching a movie or having a romantic dinner, or even staying in for a couple of movies, instead of just saying "Good night" and "See you when I wake up" afterwards.

Now, we could finally do all of that and so much more, and we couldn't be happier (except that I'm sure there's always room for happiness in the years to come)! Nothing compares to that moment when your husband carries you into your new home. And yes, he did literally sweep me off my feet and carried me like any geeky, old-fashioned husband would!

So, we've been busy the past couple of months with wedding preparations, the wedding itself, moving in, and finally getting a taste of this new life together. With the ups, I did have my downs, just like what closing any memorable chapter in your life feels like, and I'm sure he's had his share of bittersweetness as well, but overall, we are extremely blessed.

Work will start in a few days as the Christmas season finally comes to yet another end, and I will surely be busy, but I will make sure to update this blog as often as I can and share this new life with the few interested readers that I have. I hope that everyone has a happy and fresh start to this brand new year. See you all in the next update!
